- The National Museum of Chine
The National Museum of China, a four-storeyed main building with two symmetrical wings, runs more than 300 meters north and south along the eastern side of Tian'anmen Square. The predecessors of the National Museum are two museums: the Museum of Chinese History and the Museum of Chinese Revolution, which shared the same building complex. The building was one of ten famous architectures built in 1959 to mark the 10 th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic. The Museum of Chinese History was in the South Wing while the North Wing housed the Museum of the Chinese Revolution. They were both opened to the public in 1961.The building has a rectangular exterior and faces the Great Hall of the People. Twenty-four square pillars make up the magnificent west gate portico. With its classical color and imposing structure, the whole building is an important part of the panorama of Tian'anmen Square. About the Museum of Chinese HistoryThe predecessor of the Museum of Chinese History is the Beijing History Museum built in 1912 and was opened to the public in October 1926. In August 1958, the Chinese government decided to establish a new national museum on the eastern side of Tian'anmen Square. The construction was completed in October 1959.The Museum of Chinese History displays three main periods of Chinese history. The first, the Primitive Society, spans from 500,000BC to 4,000BC. The exhibits in the Slavery Society section cover the time from 2,100BC to 475BC and the Feudal Society exhibits focus on the period from 221BC to 1911.
- The Capital Museum
The Capital Museum is located in the Confucius Temple at Guozijian Street, southeast of Andingmen (Peace and Stability Gate), Beijing. It was prepared to build up in 1953, but was officially opened to the public until October 1, 1981 for setbacks in construction duration.Beijing Confucius Temple was initially built up in the 6 th year (1302) of Dade reign in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It is the place for the emperors in Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties to sacrifice Confucius. The Confucius Temple covers an area of 22,000 square meters with its construction area of more than 6,000 square meters. The main structures are Dacheng Gate, Dacheng Palace and Chongsheng Gate, and Chongsheng Memorial Temple. Xianshi Gate is now the entrance door of Beijing Capital Museum.The Confucius Temple preserved the world famous Jinshi (the title of successful candidate who passed through the highest imperial examination) nomination monument, the handwritings of successful candidate who passed the exam and other celebrities' calligraphic works. You can find the familiar names like Liu Yong, Ji Xiaolan, etc., there. It also exhibits the vast Thirteen Inscriptions Monuments.
- Tianjin Museum
The Tianjin Museum , located at the southern side of the scheduled Tianjin Municipal Administrative and Cultural Center at Hexi District, covers an area of 5.02 hectares with the total building space of 31,400 square meters. The Museum, a shell structure, is designed in the shape of a giant swan. In front of the Museum is a 10,000 square meters wide Swan Lake and before the Lake is a large green patch with the space of 240,000 square meters. The Museum, expected to be completed in October this year, is to be built into a large modern spot for the collection, protection and research of historic relics as well as a place for education, leisure and touring.When completed, the Tianjin Museum , a combination of the Tianjin Art Museum and Historical Museum , will contain all the 150,000 pieces of valuable historical and cultural relics of the two museums, and aperiodic exhibitions will be held by turns.The building of the Tianjin Museum is a product of the cooperation between China and Japan . From the designing schemes put forward by twelve designing institutes, both domestic and foreign, the related specialists have finally chosen the scheme put forward by a Japanese designing office and the Swan comes out of its egg. In the concept of the world famous Japanese architectural master, the design of shell structure gives one a sensuous pleasure by combining the manmade lake with the entrance corridor, just like a swan with its wings spread out. In addition, the appearance of the building gives one the feeling of a theater. It offers an epoch-making beautiful scenery that can be compared favorably with the Sydney Opera House.
- China National Museum of Fine Arts
The China National Museum of Fine Arts, situated at the Wusi Avenue of Beijing's Dongcheng District, is a national level key museum of fine arts. It focuses on the exhibition, collection and research of works of modern and contemporary artists. The museum, completed in 1962, is one of the 10 major architectures built in the first ten years after the founding of the People's Republic of China and the largest gallery of fine arts in China. The museum covers an area of more than 30,000 square meters with a construction area of 17,051 square meters, of which 6,000 square meters are for exhibition halls.Since its establishment, the main structures of the Museum follow the style of ancient pavilions: the buildings are decorated with yellow glazed tiles and surrounded by beautiful corridors. The museum has 13 exhibition halls, an exhibition hall of fine arts for sales and a consultancy service department of art works.The museum boasts a collection of more than 60,000 works of modern and contemporary fine arts. In addition to collecting, preserving, displaying and doing research in fine arts works, the museum also organizes various national and international exhibitions, carries out academic exchanges with domestic and foreign related institutions, establish archives of historical documents and art works of modern and contemporary fine arts, compiles and publishes albums and theoretical corpus on the collected works of the museum.
